Movies in Review: “Hugo”

This movie was supposed to be an adventure, but was less adventure, and instead a total bore…yawn. It seemed that Scorsese tried to make something out of nothing, but failed to do a good job at it. The introduction was almost 10min long, and seemed to “introduce” nothing…smh

The story was not well written at all, and even the dialogue between characters lacked substance. There were events in the story that were not well thought out, for example, the accident that happened to Hugo’s father…wth. I would have liked to received more detail about that event because in the movie it made no sense. The events following also left me scratching my head. The story was so annoying that I left 20min before the credits started rolling. So I have no idea how it really ended, but there wasn’t enough time left to fill in all the unanswered gaps that were left throughout the film. And to make matters worse, this dull action drama is already 2+ hrs long! Uuuuuuggghhhh!

If you’re interested in watching an orphan who is pretty handy with tools, and fixes clocks, run around a train station for 2hrs, then be my guest and check this movie out. If you’re smart and have read the words that I have written, you will save your money and spend them elsewhere…C-

  1. You shoulda stayed and finished it though! haha. it had some closure!

I think the one thing that caused this movie to not be as solid as it could’ve been was really summed up over at anomalousmaterial.com…the movie was entitled HUGO, but had almost completely not about HUGO and his adventure. and thus, part of the disappointment.

    • This movie was so blah for me, and if I needed to stay to the end to get closure…smh…just didn’t seem worth it. The adventure wasn’t fun at all, and seemed more dpressing than anything…lol

I’m surprised as most podcasts I listen to seemed to really liked it. Will have to go to see this myself and find out. Although I’m not a big fan of 3D I heard it was put to good use here. What was your feeling about it?

    • Anyone I know who went to see this film was very disappointed. I don’t know how to describe this movie really. All I know is I just felt like I didn’t get the adventure I was looking for. The 3D usage was ok. Better than a lot of other 3D feature, but nothing to write home about. I honestly thought the 3D effects were better used in Harold & Kumar Christmas.
