Movies in Review: “The Iron Lady”

A superb performance by Meryl Streep as she takes on the role as Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s first female prime minister. Unfortunately, Streep’s performance was one of the ONLY great points of this film. Quite honestly the story of Mrs Thatcher was rather dull. I cannot tell you how great Streep was. She gave life to this story, as she played an aging, cenial Thatcher remarkably. It didn’t look like a great makeup job, Streep really looked like and acted as an aged Thatcher, it was eary…smh.

Watching Thatcher hallucinate about her dead husband, and being badgered by everyone around her, as well as a few flashbacks, was all this movie had to offer, and that was a bit of a bore. There had to be more that they weren’t showing. Something besides her as Prime Minister, and her being able to keep her wits about her in her senior years. I think Streep’s performance alone is enough to see this film, but perhaps by Netflix or OnDemand…B-

I am a part of the viewing audience simple and plain. I started this blog to give a real life review of films, as an avid movie goer. Movies are expensive, and not always worth the money. I hope my reviews help you in your descision.

  1. This seemed to be a bit of a bore. No disrespect to Streep. I can understand why she herself receives nominations for this one, however, this biopic is no “The King’s Speech” and will not be receiving any other noms. Seems like more and more in hollywood is trying to ride of The King’s Speech’s coattails with UK biopics. Madonna is doing it with W.E.

    okay…off my soapbox! haha
    nice review!

    • I totally agree with you. “The King’s Speech” outdid itself, so I don’t know why anyone would think they could outdo it. Yeah the story was a total bore, unfortunately for Streep because her performance was really amazing. She deserves the nods that she receives, the movie itself deserves nothing. I was this close to giving it a “C”, but Streep kept me from going there.
